Meet our Judges!

Nearly 9 years ago Katie Godfrey launched the renowned ‘KG Salon’ in  Barton Le Clay in Bedfordshire. The business took off immediately and Katie built up a reputable salon offering excellent treatments with professional, friendly staff. Katie worked extensive hours to ensure that everything about the salon was perfect at all times.  KG Salon is now a franchise brand with 4 locations. 

 

KG Salon has won over 11 awards including ‘Babtac eyelash technician of the year’ and 'Outstanding Salon of the year' and been published over 30 times. 

 

Katie has been lashing for 9 years and launched her very own training academy in 2012, which is now in several locations around the UK. 

In 2016 'KG Professional' eyelash products launched and are now sold in over 950 salons. This all happened within a year of production and this number is still growing daily. 

 

With many successful businesses under her belt and a huge women's following, Katie has since established her renowned business mentoring programme which is aimed at helping other women just like her and is also a number 1 best selling author on amazon.

Lindsey is a fully qualified beautician and after taking a break from the beauty world to raise her two children, Lindsey is now in the process of building her business back up. She has a huge interest in fashion and lifestyle and blogs about this over at Simply LV. Lindsey is now the official blogger for Intu MK & Gem Media. She is a single mother of two, but doesn’t let that stop her dreams. Working part time at B & Q to help support her family and beauty business.

Clarissa began working with faces 10 years ago, firstly as a make-up artist and then as a permanent make-up technician. Since then she has strived to make her work as perfect as possible, because she said “there is no greater job satisfaction than seeing my clients beam with joy when they see their transformations.” Clarissa has also got her own Training Academy and said “you can be safe in the knowledge, not one student will ever leave my training academy without ‘chasing perfection and catching excellence’, because after all, they not only represent themselves, but they represent myself”.

Nafisa Mughal is an aesthetics practitioner with a background in Dentistry. After qualifying in dental hygiene in 2008 she found herself increasingly drawn to facial cosmetic treatments. 
Nafisa trained in 2010 to administer anti-wrinkle injections and has since trained further in dermal fillers, skin rejuvenation treatments as well as gaining a diploma in semi-permanent makeup techniques. 
Nafisa co-owns two dental practices with her husband and also runs her own aesthetics company, providing treatments for patients. 
Nafisa is passionate about making others look and feel the best they can and has written many articles in dental journals for other dental hygienists as well as co-authoring a book to inspire them to start in this field. She is also a trainer for facial aesthetic treatments and divided her time between treating patients and training.

Multiple business owner Alex Bates likes to keep busy running her award winning nail and beauty salon @prettypolishnailsbeauty and her training academy @abeducationacademyse both based in Toddington #Bedfordshire. Sharing her time between teaching students, working in and managing her salon, as well as her family of 3 young boys and supportive husband. Having taught for various well known nail branded previously, Alex decided to focus on her own dreams and AB Education Academy opened its own dedicated training centre early 2018. “I believe that with passion and determination you can be successful... stay in your own lane... live got truth and most importantly be kind.”

A stylist who ran who her own award-nominated business for 15 years, an award-winning Radio Presenter, Arts Influencer and Writer, Theatre Reviewer, blogger and compere, Nancy is the go-to person for the arts in MK and has interviewed anyone whose anyone in the arts world such as Elaine Paige, Priscilla Presley, Frederick Forsyth, John Suchet and many more (check out her website www.nancystevens.co.uk). She is also writing a dramatised version of her autobiography. Her style can be described as quirky and colourful, she loves charity shops, vintage clothing, am dram, cake and hot yoga, not necessarily in that order!

I started my make up journey when I trained at the @uniofbeds in Specialist #MakeUp Design. I have worked for various high end brands as well as freelance and am currently a MUA for @dior , where I have been for 4 years. I have experience in all types of make up including bridal, hi fashion, ocassion make up and special effects. I have always had a passion for make up and love being able to make people feel better about themselves it is a very rewarding job. I.enjoy being able to be creative and see every client as a blank canvas, I get to meet new people every day and enjoy sharing my knowledge, tips and tricks with them. The make up industry is forever growing , there is always new and exciting products and trends and therefore I’m delighted to be a judge at the @beautyawardsmk in the MUA category and look forward to meeting the shortlisted candidates and seeing their work. 💄

Jon Boyle

Celebrate MK

@celebratemk editor Jon Boyle has been announced as a judge for Beauty Awards MK, hosted by Gem Media.

Jon, who has worked as a journalist for over 15 years, will pick the winner of the Best #BeautyBlogger category for the awards on October 20that Jury’s Inn hotel, CMK.

The dad-of-one is used to working alongside top bloggers such as Ginger Mum and SoCal Val for Celebrate:MK lifestyle magazine.

Jon said: “I am absolutely thrilled to have been chosen to judge this category by organiser Gemma Burnikell and I can’t wait to start looking at the work of the finalists.
“It’s the first time I will have ever attended a Beauty Awards event so I’m really looking forward to cheering on all the winners!” Alongside his job at Celebrate:MK, Jon has worked as a journalism lecturer at University of Bedfordshire for four years, after five years as journalism course leader at Milton Keynes College.

He started his journalism career as a news reporter for the Leighton Buzzard Observer before progressing to the role of senior reporter at its larger sister newspaper The Milton Keynes Citizen.
Jon combined his news position with the role of Milton Keynes Dons FC reporter at the Citizen, travelling the length and breadth of the country to report on every match for more than three years, before landing a job as sports editor at the Wiltshire Gazette & Herald.

He was soon tasked with the extra responsibility of sports editing the Gazette’s sister newspaper The Wiltshire Times, which involved designing and sub-editing all the pages for both sport sections, managing reporters, writing stories, producing video content and managing both websites.
Alongside his full-time journalism positions, Jon worked as a national freelance football reporter for more than a decade, covering teams such as Leicester City, Coventry City, Luton Town, Swindon Town, Wycombe Wanderers and MK Dons for national newspapers including the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, The Sun and the Daily Star.

Amanda, the hair behind the face @gingermumstyle has been a content creator for her own blog www.gingermumstyle.com and freelence writer for over four years and has recently starred in the L'oreal Garnier commercial alongside Fearne Cotton and is in this month's Prima magazine. 
A working MK mum of two redheaded boys, her distinctive red locks have become her brand and helped her stand out from the crowd and seen collaborations with brands such as Ralph Lauren, Disney, Batiste, Garnier, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer to name but a few.

  1. How it Works?

If you work in one of the above categories, you would have either entered yourself or been voted for as someone who should win a category within Beauty Awards MK. You would then have received an application form.

 

The application forms are then distributed to our judging panel who will judge the Business. 

​

GM Events will then appoint a leader within your industry to come and review your working conditions and your work. A full checklist will be adhered too.

​

Everyone shortlisted will be invited to attend the awards ceremony where the judges will announce the winner. 

​

The winner will be judged based on Business & Talent.
