ready for summer. Think loud colours, innovative patterns and flattering
silhouettes that create eye-catching outfits for every fashionista.
Shantel, the owner of MawMaw has a true eye for fashion and has created this
brand to bring African style and culture to the fore. Having taught herself to sew
at the age of 4, Shantel’s innovation, creativity and eye-catching designs led her
up the fashion chain, initially sewing clothes for Notting Hill Carnival before
getting involved with big brand names such as Phase 8 and Topshop. She has
also worked the prestigious New York Fashion week with the team at Cynthia
Rowley - an accolade to her talent, style and hard work. Shantel created
MawMaw 4 years ago and her raw talent is evident in her all aspects of her
exciting brand and dynamic designs.
African style and culture is the inspiration behind the brand. All MamMaw
clothing is designed in London and proudly handmade in Ghana, an important
part of the brand’s heritage. MamMaw works in partnership with local African
artisans, to create a partnership that gives local Africans new skills with modern
technology and harnesses a partnership that promotes a socially conscious work
ethic. This aspect of MamMaw is in constant development with Shantel looking
for more innovative ways to increase employment for local Africans globally and
boost local trade.
If you love fashion, you will love this brand. Shantel’s passion for style, creativity
and fashion is evident in every aspect of her brand. She infuses this love of
fashion with a cultural flair that creates a desirable African inspired look for
every woman to rock. We can’t wait to have MamMaw bring the ethnic summer
vibe to the catwalk this July. Make sure you see them on the runway and head
over to their stall where you’ll have the chance to get your hands on their hot
summer styles.
